5 Ways To Have Fun With Your Family On Friday
Hooray, it is Friday! There has been a lot going on with my family and there is no better time than now to let loose and have some fun. Now that it is summer, Fridays transform into another family night for us. Typically, during the school year it is my date night with the hubs. But, with a short summer this year and my kids growing up so fast, it just right feels right to spend more time with each other (whether my kids like it or not). Summer will go in a flash and let’s make it count. These ideas may be activities you already do as a family or may be new to you, so I would love to hear from you. The point is make Friday fun with your family!
Here are our family’s 5 fun ways to celebrate Fridays together:
1. FRIDAY NIGHT TREATS
During the week we try to eat healthy. I love to experiment with new foods and I insist my kids at least take a bite of my new healthy concoctions. But, on Friday it is different. My daughter Chloe and I love to read cookbooks (this one is my new fav)! Friday is the perfect day to experiment and make that delicious dessert Chloe and I have been eyeing. We also save our Yogurtland coupons and head over to our favorite froyo place. I let the kids go crazy with their favorite yogurt flavors and toppings (within reason LOL!).
2. GET PHYSICAL
Living in Orange County is amazing! We have the beach, parks, and trails to use for our merriment. We also belong to a great fitness center that has a rock wall, basket court, swimming pools and exercise floor. We love going to LifeTime Fitness and it has been a great decision to join. But, you don’t need a gym to get physical. Whether you choose to move your body indoors or out, you will reap the benefits of exercising together. We also love to find seashells at the beach, ride our bikes or take a walk along the lake, getting physical exercise together makes us and our heart happy.
3. GAME NIGHT
This may not be new for many of you, but for me growing up it was. I did not grow up playing “games” with my family. I don’t know why? Perhaps, my Cambodian family who immigrated here didn’t know how to play with “American” board games? However, now that I have a family of my own, it has been enjoyable to incorporate games…..as simple as it seems. Our latest game is ladder toss! Have you guys tried this game? We have so much fun with it in our backyard and get pretty competitive.
4. MOVIE NIGHT
We have really come to enjoy this activity together recently! As you know we no longer watch TV, simply because we don’t have time for it. We are a busy family on the go. When Friday rolls around we love to watch a video from home or head to our local movie theatre. This family activity is an instant crowd pleaser and no one complains. I love this no-fuss approach to having fun. And, who can say no to buttery movie theatre popcorn? If we decide to watch a movie at home, we will either pop our own popcorn or if we are really lazy just buy microwave popcorn.
5. FREE TIME
This may sounds uninspiring, boring or unproductive but there are times we just do nothing on Friday. LOL! And, doing nothing feels good. Sometimes, we can overschedule ourselves to exhaustion right? I used to do this. But, now that I am older and wiser I understand and appreciate quiet time. I will fix my family a simple dinner and let my kids and husband do whatever they want at home. The girls could be painting their nails, Elijah could be playing tetherball in the backyard, and Albert flopped on our bed after a long day at work, whatever it is….I just let it be. We all need time to decompress. Then just before bedtime I usually have a sweet treat ready for them.
Now tell me what do you like to do on Fridays for fun?
