Happy Wednesday dolls! Yesterday was the big day for my daughters Emi (13) and Chloe (11). They had their big dance audition for the distinguished ballroom dance program at Orange County School of the Arts, a performing arts charter school for 7th – 12th grades. The girls have been preparing for this moment for months with weekly dance lessons, private coaching, and practice sessions. We all couldn’t believe this day had finally come!?! Last night reminded me of the beautiful and inspiring saying “the world is your oyster” and I am excited to share our experience with you!
We arrived on time thinking it was going to be a simple 30 minute audition only to find out at check in it was a two hour long process! I was so proud the girls didn’t freak out and held their composure throughout the entire audition experience. Parents were lined up in the dance hallway in anticipation for their kids’ big moment. On our drive up I reminded them that how important it was to be confident, feel comfortable in your own skin, and act positively during the audition process; and most importantly to have fun! The saying the “world is your oyster” was a theme in our conversation. I love what this phrase means. Have you heard the saying the “world is your oyster” before? I pose the question to you because I have only heard it recently myself.
Even though the girls said they messed up on some steps and doubted their responses to the interview questions they felt proud and relieved they made it through. We will find out in April if Emi and Chloe got accepted. So, please cross your fingers and toes for us! I have always instilled in my children the mindset that you can achieve and do anything you want in life! If they don’t get in this year…they can try again next. The important thing they need to remember is to continue trying and that the world is theirs and they can do what they want in their lives as long as they continue to dream and work for it.
