If you guys have been following me for a while you know that I love to exercise! My daily non-negotiable task (minus Sundays) is physical activity. Exercise is so therapeutic for me. This is my favorite way to destress and care for myself. I love to lift weights, do interval training and kettlebell workouts. And, I love to mix things up by exercising on the bike and running on the treadmill or outdoors. After having three kids and gaining a lot of weight from each of them, my body has changed. This is an obvious fact for many, if not all, women who have had children. One of the changes that was hard for me when exercising was my leaky bladder. I love to train hard, but I didn’t love the unexpected leaks that came with it.

My bladder isn’t the same as it used to be and that is okay. I am writing this post because I want to be open about it. I think this is something women shouldn’t be embarrassed to talk about. I am an advocate of health and especially self-care, and daily exercise is important for overall wellness. Let’s not let any annoying unpredictable leaks get in the way of our total well being!

If you are new to incontinence pads, let me tell you more about them. They differ from menstrual pads, which absorb menstrual blood that comes out much slower than urine. Incontinence pads, also known as bladder control pads, are designed to absorb urine that disperses quite rapidly. My bladder control pads of choice are TENA products. TENA intimates® offers fast absorption to keep your skin fresh and dry thanks to ProSkin Technology™ that helps to maintain your skin’s natural balance. TENA cares for and helps protect your intimate skin. All TENA products offer Triple Protection from bladder leaks, odor and moisture. I feel so confident when exercising using TENA products because I know my leaks will be absorbed quickly and there will be no odor or uncomfortable moisture around my delicate skin.

Here are 4 things I make sure to do to ensure that I have a comfortable and successful workout:

#1  Wear a supportive sports bra

Keeping yourself supported while exercising will help you feel comfortable and confident. Find one that fits snuggly around your upper torso and holds everything place.

#2  Keep your hair pulled back

The gym is not the place to sport your perfect blow out. Keep your mane out of your eyes, nose, and face by pulling your hair up in a ponytail or bun with a non-damaging hair tie.

#3  Hydration is key

Carrying a water bottle is necessary. Remember our bodies are made from up to 60% of water. Staying hydrated during exercise will help you perform better, regulate your body temperatures and lubricate joints. I also like to carry hydration tablets to add to my water bottle to restore electrolytes when the need arises.

#4  Choose your underwear wisely

I find that high waisted briefs with smooth edges are perfect to wear under leggings because I love the support and the smooth edges don’t show any underwear lines. Also, high waisted brief don’t shift as much as other styles of undergarments while exercising. It is important to find an underwear where your TENA pad can attach well to the lining.
