Happy Monday! My last  blog post I mentioned my fun photo shoot with my family in Utah. I know you guys have been waiting for it. Well, here it is! We had so much fun playing in the snow in South Jordan, Utah. But man, was it freezing! You will see the cool photos of my sweet husband Albert, my daughter Chloe, and my son Elijah.  Emi, my eldest daughter, was home sick with grandma. We sure missed her here. Our family isn’t complete without her. I hope you enjoy the photos. They were photographed by my talented cousin Jeanine of Jeanine Chhim Photography.

I have partnered with my friends at Be Above Drugs to share 6 Ways to Empower Young People. Whatever your calling is, you can make an impact in a child’s life through your words and example. I grew up without a father in my life.  My parents divorced when I was four years old. I can’t begin to tell you how blessed I was to have had many great friends, leaders and mentors in my life to support and guide me. My self-esteem was so delicate and raw. It was through kind expression, service, and love that I blossomed to become the woman I am. These angels of mine saw great worth and had a strong desire to empower young people!

Albert and I are a team when it comes to living our life together and raising our tribe. We may not be on the same page all of the time, and that is okay. It is important is that we honor our roles as parents. We take regular evaluations on our parenting abilities to find ways where we can improve our connection and bond with our three kids. Our children range from 7 to 14 years old and all have different needs, wants, concerns, personalities, etc. We understand how important it is to empower young people, specifically our children, but also the youth we interact with through friends, school, and church.

Parents have a huge role in building the self-esteem, confidence, and emotional strength in their children. I am excited to share with you what has worked for Albert and I in our quest to raise our kids in greatness!

6 Ways to Empower Young People

Show your children how much you love them. You can never go overboard with love. Shower your kids with love daily through words, warm embraces, and gestures of kindness.

Listen to your kids. Show parental concern about your children’s problems. Talk less, listen more.

Peace begins at home. Strive to have harmony in home. Make home a safe place to be.

Help your kids. Provide parental availability to offer competent and organized help when needed.

Be fair. Set clear and fair rules with your kids. Make sure the entire family is on the same page with rules.

Stay consistent and firm in your standards. Gently enforce rules, yet hold your kids accountable for their actions.

A big thanks to Be Above Drugs for these awesome hoodies and sweatshirt to remind us of our sacred power, duty, and influence to empower young people to live their best lives. When children have a solid understanding of their worth, they will have the strength and confidence to stand for what they value. They will have the grit to resist the many temptations that the world has out there to pull them down and distract them from reaching their potential.

Please join my family and Be Above Drugs to commit to making an effort this year to empower the youth of today with your words and action. I hope this post has inspired you to give more of yourself and to pay it forward to those in need. If you have had a mentor in your life as a youth I would love to hear your story too!

Thank you for stopping by at To Thine Own Style Be True.
